OotE - Observations by ~blackpearleyes:iconblackpearleyes:

Once on this Earth: “Observations”

“It’s surprising how well they get along.”

Mona Figueroa looked up, eyes squinting against the mid-afternoon sunlight as a large figure shifted to her side, it’s shadow casting itself over her much smaller frame.  At length, she smiled and allowed her crossed arms to settle at her sides, one hand finding it’s way to the back pocket of her jeans.  “Shouldn’t they?”

Her eyes turned once more to the sight before her, the tiny moving figures of Sunstreaker and Sideswipe driving around each other in circles before they broke away and rounded back to resume where they had left off.  Every now and then they would transform, from car to ‘bot and back again, throwing mock punches (sometimes landing some real ones) in an activity they seemed to enjoy.

Not too far from them, the little speck that she knew was Jin Sagami was perched atop the hood of his white Mazda, a thick blanket spread under him in order to prevent the metal from frying his butt.

She couldn’t see his face, didn’t know what was going through her friend’s mind; but she knew from knowing him as long as she did, that despite being stuck sitting and watching the two ‘bot brothers go at each other – that he was enjoying himself just fine.

“Didn’t take Jin for the foolhardy type.” Her companion snorted, the shifting of metal and gears reaching her ears as he settled into a crouch.  “The twins have a reputation for being reckless; and that’s in the presence of others of our kind.”

Mona looked over as her companion tilted a look in her direction.

“I’d imagine they’d be far more dangerous to humans.  You’re not as sturdy as us.  I think we can agree on that.”

There was a brief pause.

“Aren’t you the least bit concerned for his safety?”

Mona didn’t bother holding back the smirk that passed her lips, and she shifted her weight from one foot to the other before finally crossing her legs under her.  The ground was still relatively warm, but Jazz’s shadow was wide enough and soon, she knew, the ground would eventually cool.

“I am.” She shrugged as she uncrossed her legs so that she could pull her knees up against her chest, one arm draped over the other.  “But Jin’s a big boy.  He can take care of himself.” Below, the twins had transformed back into the red and yellow Lamborguini alt modes that they had taken for themselves, and Jin’s figure slid off the hood of his car.

She already knew what was coming next.  If she’d learned anything in the short time that Jin had managed to become friends with the two Autobots: it was the rush, that need for speed that made up the foundation of their friendship.

“Besides,” she smiled as the sound of cars racing off floated over to them like the dust left if their wake.  “Do the twins ever listen when you tell them not to do what they plan to do anyway?”

What always interests me is the assimilation between different species--not the huge battles, but single quiet moments. It seems that portraying assimilation is an easier thing when making connections between the two species -- such as what draws the twins to Jin and vise versa. It might have been an unconscious thing, but it was very shown rather than told.

It came together very naturally, actually, when Kam and I were discussing it. Of all the kids, Jin always struck me as the kind to connect with the more reckless, perhaps because of what he's seen.

I should write more for him. And so I shall. =3

Wee little nitpick: it's spelled Lamborghini, not Lamborguini.

Aside from that though, this offered some really interesting insight into Jin, and Mona and Jazz's friendship (since that's all there seems to be at this point in time). Jin and the Twins are obviously a lethal combination, and I already foresee much tool-throwing where Ratchet is concerned - and I bet he'd be tempted to squish Jin if only for getting the Twins in trouble.

*snickers*

It's interesting to see how Mona and Jazz (and Jin and the Twins, for that matter) seem to be kindred spirits to each other, each in their own way. You explained that it's the recklessness and need for speed that fuel the friendship between the Twins and Jin, but for Mona and Jazz, I think it's a different sort of understanding: something quiet, something that you can't easily put in words. I mean, they're both cool people, there's no denying that, but their kinship goes much deeper than that.

Which is why, after reading this piece, I think I could easily believe that Mona and Jazz would get along fantastically as a romantic couple.

How MS Word missed that, I have no idea. *goes to edit*

Would you believe that this was actually sitting in my LJ for the longest time? I had planned to make it much longer, but ending it the way it did seemed to make much more sense. :giggle:

I should write more for them again. If only because. And I am rambling, will stop now.
